Pools open for fun in the sun
Outdoor swimming pools across the Moira Shire will open for the 2017-2018 season Friday 1 December.
Pools at Numurkah, Yarrawonga, Cobram, Nathalia and Strathmerton have undergone pre-season preparation and, with the early onset of warm weather, a huge season is anticipated.
There are a number of events being planned to run at Moira pools over the season. These include a Dash and Splash series at Nathalia and Numurkah and potentially a once-off event at Strathmerton together with Family Fun Days with pool inflatable at all venues.
There is also a plan to run a Ninja Warrior Wednesday promotion in January, alternating from site to site, so local children and youth can compete to become the ultimate pool ninja warrior.
Moira YMCA Recreation Facilities Manager Marcus Maher said the aim was to encourage everyone to enjoy the pools and it was also a way of increasing utilisation of great community assets.
“The pools are great places to spend warm days relaxing and cooling off, so we thought adding some fun activities to the calendar would help promote them and make them attractive to local community members who do not normally come down,” he said.
“We want to help people become more active and we may even add some Pool Party type events with music to the calendars of the bigger venues if there is enough interest.”
Mr Maher said that event dates and times would be confirmed soon and all information would be available at www.moirapools.ymca.org.au or by contacting Numurkah Aquatic and Fitness Centre on 5862 2068.
